Basecamp Nature Forest: Since establishment Basecamp Explorer focused on reviving the natural habitat by
planting indigenous trees around the camp. To date we have planted and protected more than 140,000 trees
around the camp compound. Former US President Barack Obama and his family visited Basecamp in 2006.
During their visit, they each planted a tree on the piece of land adjacent to the camp establishing what is now
referred to as the ‘Obama Forest’. When visiting Basecamp Masai Mara, walk around the forest and see how the
trees have grown over the years. Guests visiting are encouraged to follow the example set by the Obama Family
and plant a tree in the plantation. This helps address climate change a severe global threat to the environment.
